Heifer Heist’s New Website

Hi everyone, I just wanted to show an update of something I’ve been working on. I’ve been in the works of a board game called Heifer Heist that I am hoping to bring to Kickstarter later this summer! We just launched our new website at heiferheist.com, and we can also be found on Facebook and Twitter. If you like this game, do support us and share, like and follow and I’ll try and keep everyone updated on how when the Kickstarter will be launching and how the process is going!

Heifer Heist – A Cow Abduction Boardgame

Board Close-Up

I haven’t been posting recently because I have been working on this boardgame called, Heifer Heist! In a nutshell,

Heifer Heist is a classic story about aliens, cows, and a great escape. The players are aliens who have crash landed on a planet and “borrow” cows to power their motherships to return to space. During their cownapping quest, they must dodge the angry farmer, who’s got beef with them!

If you like this game it would be awesome to like us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter, and sign up to be notified when our Kickstarter launches!

This is possibly my favorite project that I have worked on with my friend, Jess. We entered it into the Champaign-Urbana Design Organization’s (CUDO) boardgame competition and won the award for Best Visual Design and Most Marketable.

We have had the awesome opportunity to show and play our game with several designers at Deep Silver Volition, and now in the process of creating a Kickstarter for it!

My Own Portfolio

I am a third year Industrial Design student myself and wanted to share my portfolio of my work thus far. I have been trying really recently to apply for internships for summer of 2013. So far I’m still working and reaching for one; hopefully I’ll get one this year. My long term goal would be toy design. It would be a dream! Constructive feedback is completely welcome.

Thank you for reading,

– Katie

Simple Convenience Iron

A small compact and portable iron designed by Laura Nelson that works similar to a hair straightener.

It is perfect if you just need a little touch up and you don’t want to take out the bulky iron.  It is also great for ironing that requires a bit of maneuver, for example in-between the buttons of a shirt.

Simple Convenience is designed to be compact, which is ideal for the travelling professional. I find hotel irons often have gunk on them that might ruin your shirt, so you always have to extra careful. With Laura’s iron, you get simplicity, convenience and a piece of mind.

Hole Measuring Tape

The Hole Measuring Tape, designed by Sunghoon Jung is pretty innovative with many facets to it. It allows you to draw straight lines and circles with precision. The Hole Measuring Tape is a 2012 iF Design Talents Award entry. Very cool concept, I wish I had one of these!

“My Writing Desk” by Inesa Malafej

Her ‘my writing desk’  is a workspace which has been designed to reduce difficulties of working in a mess. I need this desk with the amount of sketches and notes that I have on my desk. I think this desks would be perfect for any designer.

A storage trough is organized around three sides of the table top, where things may be placed off the main writing surface, but still in sight and easily accessible. The desktop can be utilized right up to its edges without worrying that things may fall down, and unnecessary objects can simply be pushed to the storage sides. the high edges of the desk isolates within the room in which it stands. The wings are divided for simple construction, leaving a path for the wires. There are two drawers for a laptop and writing equipment. The legs of the table can be twisted off for easier transportation.

Paper Shoe Pt 4 – Finishing it Up

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3

Our sole search is over! We finally finished weaving together the triangles to make the sole of the shoe.

I swear there are over 1,500 triangles used in these soles.

The fact that there was no glue involved in the sole meant that it can flex freely and the sheer number of triangles meant that one could stand on the sole without just completely crushing the paper.

We couldn’t glue on an inner sole because that would take away from the flexibility so instead we only glue important parts, wich included the heel, toes and inner part of the foot for each sole.

Next we started on the upper part of the shoe which we decided to weave like this.

After a lot of tediousness we finally finished our shoe and got this:

It turned out to be more opened toed than we originally planned because we just couldn’t figure out how to create a paper structure for the top that would aesthetically resemble a running shoe while also giving the user the ability to flex their toes. Overall though our group was pleased with the outcome and it functioned for both walking and running!
